My most sacred prayer

i feel closest to God when i'm dancing 

when the music makes the floor buzz

and i'm out of my mind and in my body 

something tells my body how to move

i don't even have to think about it 

i just have to follow

that something is my spirit 

that something is me 

and every time that I follow it 

it's like I'm talking to God 

saying more than words could speak

it doesn't matter what I look like 

it doesn't matter who's watching 

it doesn't have to make sense  

God understands 

i feel it in my chest 

i feel understood 

i feel aligned 

i feel alive 

for so long 

i was dead inside

i wasn't following my song

but now 

every time i manage to get out of the way 

i can honor what my spirit has to say 

and with my body i can translate 

and when i do exactly what i feel 

without holding back or editing 

through each unfiltered move 

God responds

and i'm left on my knees

covered in sweat 

giving thanks 

because freedom is the best feeling

and when we talk like this 

new parts of me that I didn't know existed 

bloom into fruition 

so i dance in the kitchen 

i dance on the stage 

i dance in the grocery line while I wait 

and right there

toes tapping on the ground 

or hands in the air  

it is my most sacred prayer
