Mental Illness Is Cancelled

Blooming Season Family!

I am exploding with life changing information and I am so exited to share it with you!

Let’s get right into it, shall we?

The term, the concept, the lie of mental illness, is cancelled and I will never use that term again.

Going forward I will use the term, brain health, instead.

I’ll explain.

I have been looking into the work of well known psychiatrist, Dr. Amen and the incredible Dr. Caroline Leaf.

Both doctors have confirmed that mental illness is a well crafted lie, developed by the pharmaceutical companies in order to sell millions of different medications.

It’s a big billion dollar business.

My heart breaks to know this but I am glad to be awakening to this truth.

The term, mental illness, communicates that the mind is ill and therefore incapable of functioning properly because it is either missing a chemical or the chemicals are imbalanced.

We have been tricked, as a society, into believing that a pill is what is needed to assist our minds with our emotions and we become addicted to this medication as a result.

I believed that lie for a long time and I’ve used the term, “chemical imbalance” often but that is incorrect information.

Depression is an emotion, it is a normal reaction to a traumatic event, it is normal to experience this emotion and we do not need medication for an emotion.

What we need to do, is get therapy, express ourselves, get to the root of our trauma, unravel the event from which this emotion came and begin a process of healing.

What we need to do, is develop strategies and tools to help us increase our ability to respond to our emotions in a healthy way.

Anxiety is an emotion, it is a normal human reaction and we do not need medication for an emotion.

The same concept applies to all emotions.

Not all people react in the same way to the events that occur in life and just because you react differently does not mean that you need to take medication to help regulate your emotions.

Your mind is not ill because of the way in which you react to something that you have experienced.

We need healing, not a quick fix and we all heal in different ways.

It is much easier for a doctor to give you a set of mediations every few months than to sit down and listen to you for a few hours each week and ask questions in order to get to the root of your emotion.

Our emotions will never go away forever but we can learn how to have a healthy relationship with them so we can be in control of our emotions instead of our emotions having control over us.

This is why I am using the term, “brain health” going forward.

Dr Amen teaches the difference between : Brain VS Mind.

The brain is the hardware.

The mind is the software.

He says, “If the hardware of your soul (your brain) is not right, it will not be able to run the software program.”

So it is the brain that we must take care of.

A brain that is functioning correctly will produce good mental health.

A brain that is not functioning correctly will produce poor mental health.

But there is no such thing a mentally ill person or a mind that is ill.

That term in itself, takes the power of healing away from an individual and offends them by making them believe that there is something wrong with their mind.

How do we make sure that our brains are functioning properly?

Well, Dr Amen’s incredible wife named, Tana Amen, who is both an author and nurse, expressed the 4 circles of mental health :

  • Biological (how is your body functioning? Your nutrition directly contributes to your brain health. Are you woking out? Are you eating healthy?)
  • Psychological (do you have an outlet like prayer, therapy or mediation?)
  • Spiritual (What is your meaning of purpose? How do you feed your spirit?)
  • Social (who are you connected to?)

We must take care of our brain.

It is an organ just like the heart.

Your brain creates your mental health!

Here are a few tips from Dr. Amen :

  • During the day, ask yourself, “Is this decision good for my brain or bad for it?”

  • Learn how to not believe every single thought you think. This is called mental discipline and it can be developed.

  • Talk back to your thoughts.

  • Focus on what is helpful not hurtful.

  • Train your mind to search for the purpose in the pain.

  • Things that make you “feel better” fast (alcohol, weed, news addiction, bad food) all hurt your brain.

  • Take vitamins, get more vitamin D and work out.

If anyone reading this is currently taking medication for anything, I want to make sure that I express that I am not shaming you or judging you or minimizing your circumstance or your trauma.

Please remember that I am not a doctor so do not stop taking your medication before having a plan of action and speaking to your personal doctor.

If you are currently taking medication and suddenly stop taking that medication, it will hurt you tremendously because your system has learned how to function with it and depends on it, so please speak to a professional doctor before making that choice.

I simply share information that I find helpful to my growth journey.

I will sharing some links down below that include some incredible conversations with both Dr. Amen and Dr. Caroline Leaf that have had a profound impact on my life.
