Enjoy Your Life

Blooming Season Family!

I’m grateful for another week to share some words with you guys.

If you’ve been a part of the Blooming Season Family for a while now, you know that King David is my favorite human in the Bible because of the way he expresses himself through vulnerable poetry.

But lately, I’ve been reading the book of Ecclesiastes and LET ME TELL YOU!

Solomon, David’s son, will end up being my second favorite because of his shameless honesty. David expressed his honesty within the art of language, which I love, but Solomon was a straight shooter LOL

He's not trying to be fancy, he's just tired and Solomon? I get it man. I get tired too.

Here are a few phrases that Solomon has said in the chapters that I’ve studied so far :

  • He calls life on earth, “unhappy business.” (I’m going to use that as an album title one day)
  • He literally says, “I hated life, because what was done under the sun was grievous, for all is vanity and striving after wind.” (I love him LOL It be like that sometimes)
  • He’s also very honest about the single life, “If two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?” (My blanket Solomon, my blanket. THAT IS HOW I KEEP WARM. It’s true though. I do get cold sometimes BUT I LIKE THE COLD - Okay I'm done lol)

Today’s blog is based off of Ecclesiastes Chapter 6.

Verse one begins with a bang, “There is evil that I have seen under the sun, and it lies heavy on mankind.”

Solomon goes on to give us an example of what he means and I’ll make it short and sweet for you :

God gives this guy wealth, possessions, honor and all that he desired.

Yet, God did not give this same guy the power to enjoy them.

That sounds like a contradiction, right?

I was thinking, “Ouch God. That’s kinda messed up.”

But then, it made sense.

In order to attain any kind of power, there is a price to pay.

This guy, let’s call him Bob, had everything that he had ever desired in life and did not enjoy any of it.

Why?

Because Bob did not pay the price.

The price, in this case, is satisfaction.

This chapter mentions the word, satisfied, twice.

Verse 3, tells us that a man could have fathered 100 children and lived many years but if his soul is not satisfied with all of the good in his life? Then, it is better to never have lived at all.

Verse 7, basically says that our appetite is not satisfied regardless of how much we eat. And I know that’s right because I CAN ALWAYS fit some ice-cream or dark chocolate in my stomach after dinner regardless of how much I've eaten.

Being satisfied within our exact reality does not come naturally to us.

As humans, naturally, we always want more of something.

We’re always thinking about what we want to eat next, even while we’re eating or what we will achieve next or the next season of our life.

Our buddy Bob had everything he ever wanted but did not enjoy it because he was not satisfied.

Had he been satisfied? I believe God would have given him the power to enjoy it all.

Satisfaction is not complacency.

Well pleased, happy, fulfilled - are synonyms for satisfaction.

Satisfaction is born out of a place of healthy/honest perspective and gratitude.

Are you enjoying your life? Did you enjoy yesterday? Are you enjoying today?

If the answer is no? That’s your fault.

oop.

Yes, I said it.

Don’t worry, it hurt me too.

God will give you the power to enjoy your day when you pay the price.

He gave you a whole new day to be alive, so now it’s your job to do whatever it is you’ve got to do in order to enjoy it.

Maybe you’ve got to wake up earlier, meditate, workout more, get therapy, seek professional help for your mental health, talk to a friend, work harder, work less, change your strategy, etc.

The price, to enjoy your life, requires you to sacrifice your comfort.

Being in the present moment is uncomfortable. It does not come naturally at first because our mind tends to drift to the future or the past.

But the more that you are able to enjoy the present moment? The more satisfied you will be with it and the more satisfied you are with this exact moment?

The further you will go. The more you will be able to, not only attain but have the power to enjoy.

God gives us incredible promises BUT we do not always receive them because we do not always pay the price by believing them over our fears, applying them with bold action and receiving them by confessing them out loud instead of speaking negatively over our life.

So, let’s not be like Bob.

I want to enjoy my life, don’t you?

Like, REALLY ENJOY IT.

You know?

That means I’ve got some work to do, a price to pay, because joy doesn’t rush in to greet me in the morning unless, I first say, hello.

Friends, let’s ask ourselves :

  • Am I so used to desiring peaks that I am dissatisfied during every climb? Or every valley?
  • Do I only allow myself to enjoy life when things go my way?
  • Am I satisfied with my present moment?
  • Am I enjoying my day?
  • Did I enjoy yesterday?

Let’s answer ourselves honestly, as Solomon would and make the changes that need to be made.

Let's really enjoy our lives while we are blessed enough to be alive!
