Excuse me while I spill my thoughts onto my keyboard.
I have to some things to say.
To deny the experiences of black people in America because you cannot relate is ignorant.
Understanding and compassion go a long way.
When you see that black people are angry?
Think about how in the last week 4 black people were found hung from a tree mysteriously, Breonna Taylor murdered in her bed while she slept and countless other black lives in 2020 alone.
Think about the root of anger.
The root of anger is fear.
They fear that the life of their aunt, uncle, sister, brother, father, mother, daughter, wife or husband could potentially be in danger.
Some people are responding with violence.
And?
Who are you to judge them?
Have some compassion for the injustice behind that action for goodness sake.
It is so ignorant and easy to condemn them.
TRY UNDERSTANDING THEM.
If you are more concerned about a building burning than black people being murdered?
Check your heart. Please check your heart.
You could say, “Well Martin Luther King Jr. said that rioting is self destructive and George Floyd’s own brother said to deal with this peacefully.”
I understand them.
They are different.
They react to violence differently.
They have a different perspective.
Do you know what would be more productive than judging people?
Praying for them.
Am I out there burning buildings?
Am I out there starting violence?
No.
Why?
Because I have different ways to process my rage.
Does everyone have the same process? No.
Do I understand their rage? YES. Absolutely yes.
Also, if the only way in which you inform yourself is via news outlets?
YOU WILL NEVER SEE OR NOTICE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN AN OVERWHELMINGLY GREATER NUMBER OF PEACEFUL PROTESTERS COMPARED TO VIOLENT ONES.
Do not swallow everything that the news feeds you.
To my Jesus Followers?
Spend more time in prayer for the world rather than criticizing it.
Spend more time spreading compassion rather than judgment.
Spend more time educating yourself on the history of this country rather than repeating statements like, “Make America Great Again.”
It was never great to begin with. That is the truth.
Spend more time studying the word of God rather than news channels.
Spend more time seeking direction/guidance from the Holy Spirit rather than conspiracy theories and gossip.
Focus.
This is not about who is right or who is wrong.
This is about injustice on a specific group of people because of the color of their skin.
This is not about winning an argument.
This is about basic human rights.
Do not be distracted by your ego during this time.
Your ego will distract you from taking this time to be alone with your own thoughts, check your heart and assess whether or not it needs to be cleansed from any form of racism.
Your ego will distract you from showing LOVE to others.
Love that is unconditional.
I say all of this with love.
Yes, we will have to experience uncomfortable conversations.
There is room for respect at this table.
No, we will not all have the same opinion.
There is room for respect at this table.
Yes, we will have to stop singing our every day, “me me me” song and LISTEN to the experience of others to help wounds heal.
There is room for respect at this table.
Do you completely disagree with something that I have said?
There is room for respect at my table.
Disagreements are part of being human.
Let us not become fearful of disagreements.
But respect, compassion and understanding?
May we always agree on those.
My main point here?
