Celebrate Yourself!

One of our natural desires as human beings is to be seen, appreciated and loved.

This is something we receive from our tribe, our people and our relationships but we cannot depend on others to receive this.

They are human as well, they get tired, they forget, just like us which is completely normal and okay.

When appreciation/love is expressed to us, we can be grateful and enjoy it but it cannot become our main source of affirmation and encouragement.

I used to have a silent expectation of those closest to me, to celebrate with me and approve me. When I didn’t receive that energy, I held onto to silent anger and silent disappointment.

Then I learned how to celebrate myself, not out of bitterness but because I understood that it is my job to love myself and make myself happy. Placing that kind of responsibility on others is both irresponsible and unfair.

There’s a quote that says, “How you love yourself is how you teach others how to love you.”

How can we expect something from others that we never give to ourselves?

After we begin to implement this for our own lives, we will naturally celebrate others as well. Not only for birthdays and graduations but for details within the fabric of life.

Let’s normalize celebration!

Who says that cakes and hoorays are only for weddings, graduations, birthdays, new jobs or holidays?

Who says I can’t buy a cupcake for myself this weekend to celebrate my week?!

It’s easy to forget the miracle of opening these two eyes in the morning and experiencing a brand new day.

One day we are all going to die so why not celebrate as much as we can?

Why wait for others to wake up to the realization that this life is short and miraculous?

Your awakening may inspire those around you, so go on and celebrate!

  • When you manage to get yourself to bed early? Do a little dance and say, “Yes! Woo Hoo!”

  • When you express kindness towards yourself instead of beating yourself up for a mistake? Do a little dance and shout, “Yep! I love myself! Muah muah muah!”

  • When you have a great workout? Clap it up for yourself, eat a delicious protein bar afterwards and dance to your favorite song!

This is a wonderful part of our wellness.

To realize that the key to celebration is not based on your calendar or a specific holiday, it is an appreciation for the gift of life and honoring the spirit from heaven that is within you.

You do not need anyones permission to celebrate.

Nothing is too small to celebrate.

Your very breath is priceless.

The fact that you are here is miraculous.

Life itself is worth a billion little dances even in the pouring rain because you are here and that is a big deal and not to be taken lightly!
