This is a phrase that we hear often and because we hear it so much it tends to lose it’s perspective shifting power.
I took some time to think about this truth and I just sat with it for a few minutes.
“I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”
I said it out loud, experienced a wide range of emotions and ended up feeling incredible peace.
I want to walk you through what happened as I meditated on that phrase.
At first, I felt the heavy emotions like anger, shame and regret.
My fear dressed up as anger and said, “You could have been there instead. Who’s fault is it? Let’s blame.”
I responded, “I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”
My ego dressed up as shame and said, “Aren’t you embarrassed? You could have been in such a different place.”
I responded, “I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”
My sadness dressed up as regret and said, “Don’t you wish you would have done things differently?”
I responded, “I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”
It is incredible to remember that I do not have to accept all of the thoughts that pass through my mind, especially when they do not benefit me in any way.
A lot of our time, strength and energy can be wasted when we unconsciously entertain useless thoughts.
Wishing to be somewhere other than the place you are in this exact moment is completely useless.
That is a distraction from the incredible progress that you can make right now.
Pain can scare us away from the present moment.
Who likes pain? No one
Who likes uncomfortable circumstances? No one
No one wakes up with a burning desire for struggle but that is an inevitable part of life.
The good news is that we have the power to confront pain. The best way to confront pain is with the truth.
We are children of the Most High.
We can do hard things.
Today, I told myself, “I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”
After the heavy feelings surrendered to that truth, I felt a surge of strength and excitement for the present moment.
The windows of possibilities seemed to open up and I felt myself letting go of my desire to be elsewhere.
Sweet surrender.
“I am here and that is not a negative thing. I am here and it is exactly where I am supposed to be. I have everything that I need within me.”
I am learning that I get to choose who surrenders.
Will it be me? Or the negative thought?
Will I surrender into the negative thoughts by entertaining and believing them?
Or will these negative thoughts surrender to the truth that I speak?
We have the power to choose.
When we concentrate our full selves in the present moment, we can achieve great things, in the same way that concentrated light can burn through any hard surface.
That concentrated light transforms into a powerful laser beam.
We are just as powerful when we manage to confront the distractions in our mind and focus on the truth.
I just want to remind you that where you are is actually perfect.
Incredible things can be done here.
Massive growth can be made here.
This moment is all that we have.
Let’s honor it!
- You can do hard things.
- You do not have to accept all of the thoughts that pass through your mind.
- Confront destructive thoughts with the truth.
- Confront heavy feelings with the truth.
- You are a child of The Most High God.
- You are loved.
- You are exactly where you are supposed to be.
- Be patient and kind to yourself on this journey.
- Let’s work with one day at a time my friends. One day at a time.
