I felt the heat of anger rising, turning my cheeks red and my mind starting to race.
I don’t even remember what happened. It must have been something very silly.
I took a moment to be still within the lava and once my face cooled down I heard that phrase in my head : You are allowed to disagree with your ego.
So, I disagreed with my ego out loud as if it were a completely different person.
I said, “Yea you need to relax because I am actually okay and you’re messing with my energy.”
I said, “Yea you need to relax because I am actually okay and you’re messing with my energy.”
Immediately, the rage left and a new shiny lesson took it’s place.
Language
The ego has it’s own language and it’s important to recognize what your ego sounds like. How else would you be able to disagree with it when it gets out of line?
We need the ego in the same way we need all of our other emotions. We just need to continue to develop our control over it.
I’ve learned that when my self esteem is not secure my ego blows up like a child in a grocery store when their parent refuses to buy them candy.
So, I’ve been working on securing my self esteem unto something unshakable, instead of a job title, a goal, an accomplishment or another human.
That security is my faith, for me. I believe that I am a child of God and that I was created with a purpose. I believe that I am fully known and loved by God.
Those beliefs are what I use to identify my ego’s language. When I hear a thought that says, “Why would you do that? Who do you think you are?”
I can use my truth to disagree with that voice.
I respond by saying, “I am a child of The Most High God and He lives in me like Mufasa lived in Simba.”
I respond by saying, “I am a child of The Most High God and He lives in me like Mufasa lived in Simba.”
When someone laughs at me for the gigantic size of my dreams/goals, I can laugh right along with them because my truth is louder within me.
It wasn’t always like that. My ego used to rage at the sound of offense. Once I began to affirm the truth to myself it became easier to recognize the ego’s language.
Affirmations
Do not underestimate the power that you release with your words.
Even if your mind currently disagrees with the positive words that you are forcing your lips to say, it’s okay. Your mind will catch up.
I encourage you to be consistent and intentional about the affirmations.
Look in the mirror for one or two minutes before you start the day and say the positive version of the negative thoughts that pass though your mind or a truth that you would like to fully believe about yourself.
Here’s an example of my current affirmations :
- I am capable of developing great work ethic
- I have everything I need to accomplish my goals
- I am not my thoughts
- I have patience with myself
- I am bold in the face of all circumstances
What are your affirmations? Take a moment and say them out loud.
Space
When I’m going to perform or audition I need my ego to be healed.
When I’m interacting with my fellow human beings I need my ego to be healed.
If the ego is out of control, I will not have any space in my mind to express love which is my natural language.
I would waste time being far too concerned about winning or being better instead of simply unfolding as I lovingly encourage others to do the same.
Let’s return to the most authentic language that we were born with. I’m still clearing out loads of trash in my mind each day to make room for love.
The world needs our love now more than ever.
We’re on a journey.
An adventure.
Learning as we go.
An adventure.
Learning as we go.
Equally facing growing pains that eventually bloom into beautiful flowers. We got this.
Let's grow!
